As the Kanwar Yatra reaches its peak ahead of Shivratri on July 23, district administrations in parts of Uttar Pradesh have ordered temporary school closures, citing traffic congestion and safety concerns.
In Uttar Pradesh, the districts of Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Bareilly, and Badaun have suspended academic activities across schools between July 16 and 23. Authorities expect a significant surge in the number of Kanwariyas during this period, prompting preventive measures.
Schools Closed in Meerut, Muzaffarnagar
Meerut District Magistrate VK Singh, in an official order, stated, "The sharp rise in Kanwariya movement during this time calls for steps to maintain public safety and streamline traffic. As a precaution to ensure student safety and prevent any disturbances, all schools will stay shut. They are scheduled to reopen on July 24".
Muzaffarnagar DM Umesh Mishra has also ordered the closure of all government and private institutions, including primary, secondary, degree, and technical colleges. The DM issued the order, with District Inspector of Schools Rajesh Kumar warning of strict action against any school found violating the directive.
