Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday spoke with US President Donald Trump in what he described as a “warm and engaging” telephone conversation. The two leaders reviewed ongoing progress in India–US relations and reflected on recent regional and international developments.
People familiar with the discussion said the leaders exchanged views on enhancing cooperation across key sectors, including trade, critical technologies, energy, defence and security.
Sharing details of the call on X, PM Modi said, “Had a very warm and engaging conversation with President Trump. We reviewed the progress in our bilateral relations and discussed regional and international developments. India and the US will continue to work together for global peace, stability and prosperity.”
Sources said both leaders agreed to work closely to address shared challenges and advance common interests as the partnership deepens.
The call marks the first conversation between the two leaders since October, when PM Modi congratulated President Trump on the “success” of the Gaza peace plan. According to officials, Modi and Trump expressed satisfaction at the steady strengthening of the India–US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, noting consistent progress across all areas of cooperation.
PM Modi and President Trump also emphasised the need to sustain momentum in efforts to boost bilateral trade, a priority for both governments.
The two leaders agreed to remain in touch as the countries continue to expand their strategic engagement.
