In light of the Pahalgam terror attack, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh vowed a strong response against those who threaten India. He emphasised PM Modi's risk-taking capabilities and assured that people will see desired action.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday asserted that India would deliver a befitting response to those who cast an evil eye on the country, particularly in light of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 people, mostly tourists.

Speaking at the Sanatan Sanskriti Jagran Mahotsav held at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi, Singh said, “As the Defence Minister, it is my responsibility to work with my soldiers and ensure the protection of the country’s borders. And it is my responsibility to give a befitting reply, by working with the armed forces, to those who cast an evil eye on our country.”

His remarks come amid India’s deliberations over possible retaliatory measures against Pakistan, following reports of cross-border linkages to the April 22 attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baisaran meadows in Pahalgam.

Singh emphasised that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India would act decisively. “You all know Prime Minister Narendra Modi's work ethic and perseverance. You are aware of his efficiency and determination. You are aware of the way he has learned to take risks in his life. I want to assure you that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, what you desire will certainly happen,” he said, as quoted by news agency PTI.

Addressing the cultural gathering, the senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader highlighted the strength of India not only in military terms but also in cultural and spiritual domains. “India’s power lies not only in its armed forces but also in its culture and spirituality,” he said, according to news agency ANI.

He added, “Our brave soldiers have always protected the physical form of India, while our sages and wise men have protected the spiritual form. While our soldiers fight on the battlefield (Rannbhoomi), our saints fight on the battlefield of life (Jeevanbhoomi).”

Singh also reflected on the degeneration of political values, stating, “The word ‘rajneeti’ is made up of two words — ‘raj’ (rule) and ‘neeti’ (policy). It means governance that leads the nation towards prosperity. But the unfortunate irony is that the word ‘rajneeti’ has lost its true essence. I seek the blessings of the revered saints so that the word can regain its original dignity.”

Amit Shah Vows Revenge Against Pahalgam Attack

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in his first public address after the Pahalgam terror incident, also vowed strong retaliation. Speaking in Assam on Thursday, Shah said, “Terrorists should not think they have won the war. This fight is not over yet. We will take revenge on all terrorists”. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to uproot terrorism “from every inch of this country,” and said, “It will be accomplished.”

Shah also stated that the entire world was standing with India and its 140 crore citizens in the fight against terrorism. Following the April 22 ambush, the Home Minister had rushed to Srinagar, met grieving families, and visited the site of the attack where armed assailants reportedly segregated and killed victims based on their religion.

Families of the victims later shared harrowing accounts with the media, revealing how their loved ones were isolated for not being Muslim and shot at point-blank range.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier stated that the terrorists behind the Pahalgam massacre “will be pursued till the ends of Earth and will be identified and punished.”
