Sophia Qureshi said that Pakistani attacked the Indian territory using 300-400 drones across the international border, which was taken down by the Indian forces using kinetic and non-kinectic methods.
Col. Sophia Qureshi, during a special briefing on Mission Sindoor, said that on the night of May 8–9, the Pakistan Army repeatedly violated Indian airspace along with Western border to target military infrastructure.
Qureshi said that Pakistani attacked the Indian territory using 300-400 drones across the international border, which was taken down by the Indian forces using kinetic and non-kinectic methods.
The remarks were made during a special press briefing, where Sophia Qureshi was present along with Wing Commander Vyomika Singh and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on Friday.
Sophia Qureshi said that despite the attacks on the intervening night of May 8-9, Pakistan didn't shut the Pakistani airspace for civil airliners thus putting civilians' lives at risk.
She further said that there were some casualties of Indian Army personnell in Jammu and Kashmir and that the Pakistani military also suffered heavy losses.
"Pakistan did not close its civil airspace despite it launching a failed unprovoked drone and missile attack on 7 May at 08:30 hours in the evening. Pakistan is using civil airliner as a shield, knowing fully well that its attack on India would elicit a swift air defence response. This is not safe for the unsuspecting civil airliners including the international flights which were flying near IB between India and Pakistan. The screenshot we just showed, it shows the data of the application flight radar 24 during a high air defence alert situation in the Punjab sector," Sophia Qureshi said.
"As you have seen, the airspace on the Indian side is absolutely devoid of civil air traffic due to our declared closure. However, there are civil airlines flying the air route between Karachi and Lahore...Indian Air force demonstrated considerable restraint in its response thus ensuring safety of international civil carriers," she added.
On Thursday, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that the Indian military carried out a measured, non-escalatory, proportionate, and responsible strike to dismantle terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan to deter and to pre-empt any further terrorist strikes. Addressing the presser, he also said that it was deemed essential that the perpetrators and planners of the April 22 attack be brought to justice as there was no demonstrable step from Islamabad to take action against the terror infrastructure on its territory or on territory under its control.
Misri also called the action taken by India against Pakistan as measured, non-escalatory, proportionate, and responsible. They focused on dismantling the terrorist infrastructure and disabling terrorists likely to be sent across to India, Misri said.
He further added that despite a fortnight having passed since the Pahalgam attacks, there has been no demonstrable step from Pakistan to take action against the terrorist infrastructure on its territory or on territory under its control.
Speaking on the attack in Pahalgam, the Foreign Secretary said that Pakistani and Pakistan-trained terrorists belonging to the Lashkar-e-Taiba carried out the savage strike on Indian tourists and murdered 26 people. It was the largest number of civilian casualties in a terrorist attack in India since the November 26, 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. The attack in Pahalgam was marked by extreme barbarity, with the victims mostly killed with headshots from close range and in front of their families, he said.
Misri called the attack in Pahalgam was clearly driven by the objective of undermining the normalcy returning to Jammu and Kashmir.
Pak Attacks Multiple Places In India
Hours after the press briefing by MEA, Pakistan on Thursday evening attacked multiple places Indian with drones. News agency PTI quoting officials reported that India neutralised the Pakistan military's attempt to hit military stations in Jammu, Pathankot, Udhampur and some other locations with missiles and drones
Military stations at Jammu, Pathankot and Udhampur were targeted by Pakistani-origin drones and missiles along the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir today, a defence ministry spokesperson said as quoted by news agency PTI. However, Pakistan has rejected such reports and said that the claims are entirely unfounded and part of a reckless propaganda campaign.
