Shaw's wife Rajani had expressed concern that the heightened tension between the two countries may impact efforts to secure her husband's release.

Pakistan on Wednesday sent back BSF constable PK Sahu, who was detained by Pakistan Rangers after inadvertently crossing the international border. Shaw's wife, Rajani, had expressed concern that the heightened tension between the two countries may impact efforts to secure her husband's release.

The constable was handed over to the Border Security Force (BSF) by the Pakistan Rangers at 10:30 am. The handover was conducted peacefully and in accordance with established protocols, a BSF spokesperson said.

Shaw hails from the Harisabha area of Rishra in West Bengal's Hooghly.

Shaw, escorting a group of farmers near the border, stepped away to rest under a tree when he "unknowingly" slipped into Pakistani territory on April 23. He was quickly taken into custody by the Pakistan Rangers.

The Indian and Pakistani border forces held a flag meeting to negotiate his release.

The incident happened just a day after a deadly militant attack in Pahalgam that left 26 people dead.
